Car bomb in Baghdad: 20 dead

An apparent car bomb exploded on Tuesday at a police station south of Baghdad, the United States military said.

Colonel William Darley, a military spokesperson, said the blast occurred in the town of Iskandariyah, about 50km south of the Iraqi capital. He had no further details.

Arab television stations reported about 20 dead, but the reports could not be immediately confirmed.

Meanwhile, the Convention Centre, which houses the US military press centre and other coalition facilities, was closed on Tuesday.

Darley said there had been ”some kind of threat” against the facility but he gave no further details. – Sapa-AP
