Tshiakale challenges Morais again

Trainer Benny Pailman confirmed on Wednesday that his charge Baldwin Tshiakale had lodged a formal challenge with Boxing South Africa to fight Earl Morais.

If approved the two will be meeting for the second time after having met at the Wembley Arena, south of Johannesburg, in August last year.

Morais retained his South African junior heavyweight title via a questionable six-round stoppage.

After the announcement Tshiakale’s fans threatened to raid the ring in protest.

Boxing pundits who witnessed the fight were of the opinion that referee Sazi Xamlashe had missed the boat.

Tshiakale, who gave Morais hell for five rounds, was sagging against the ropes after absorbing two punches when Xamlashe stopped the fight.

Xamlashe is an experienced official who has refereed world title fights, and he is also a former professional boxer.

Pailman said Tshiakale was holding on to the ropes when Xamlashe stepped in to stop the proceedings.

”It is a clear sign that he was knew what was going on,” he said on Wedenesday.

”It is a known fact that Earl did not beat Baldwin. That is why I just cannot wait for the rematch.

”I want Baldwin to prove once and for all that he is the top dog.”

Pailman anticipates a ”mother of all battles” between the two boxers, who do not particularly like each other.

Promoter Branco Milenkovic, whose Branco Sports Productions was responsible for the first fight, said he would be more than happy to stage the second bout.

Tshiakale is on a high after stopping highly rated Russian Alexander Petkovic in eight rounds in Germany two weeks ago.

The mean-looking Tshiakale decked Petkovic twice — in rounds seven and eight — before his corner rescued him towards the end of the eighth and final round.

Morais, on the other hand, was humiliated by Enzo Maccarinelli in 90 seconds for the WBU title in Cardiff in December. — Sapa
