Ajax Cape Town lost ground on the PSL log table when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Dynamos at the Athlone Stadium on Wednesday night.
Ajax led 1-0 at half-time.
The game kicked off eight minutes late after Dynamos failed to bring their away strips and much wrangling took place as Dynamos’ white shirts were too similar to Ajax’s red and white.
However, play did start and after 12 minutes Dynamos eventually changed into a ”referee friendly” green strip.
This did not affect the soccer as both sides played at a furious pace and it was Ajax who opened the scoring in the 31st minute.
Ajax’s Ashley Opperman struck a powerful shot that cannoned off the upright and into the feet of Tsholoa Tshinyama, who buried the ball.
Dynamos came close to equalising in the 55th minute when Adam Ndlovu tried to lob the ball over Ajax goalkeeper Moeneeb Josephs, but he did well to snatch it out of the air.
But the men in green eventually levelled matters in the 66th minute with a 35m drive from Nicholas Mkhabela, which screamed into the corner of the net.
Ajax then threw everything into attack and came very close to bagging all the points seven minutes from time, but substitute Graham King’s thunderbolt clattered into the side netting.
Ajax now move joint second on the league table with Kaizer Chiefs — both on 40 points — but the Johannesburgers have two games in hand. — Sapa
