Clash of the title-chasers

Kaizer Chiefs have collected an array trophies this season and will soon learn if another glittering piece of silverware is on its way to Naturena as they fight it out with Ajax Cape Town in the Absa Cup last 16.

Ajax and Chiefs are both in the running for the premiership title but this weekend the league race will take a back seat as they meet in Mmabatho on Saturday.

The Cape team has been a revelation in the past few months, particularly as they flirted with relegation last season. Ajax are in line to cause the biggest upset in the cup if they can upset Chiefs again as they did last year.

Ajax coach Gordon Igesund said, ‘I am positive that we will get a good result and the game will be a closely contested one.”

The intensity of this game could result once again in a penalty shootout. So far this season Chiefs have had the upper hand, beating Ajax in the Coca-Cola Cup, then winning and drawing against the Capetonians in the league.

On Sunday the defending cup champions Santos take on Jomo Cosmos. Cosmos struggled against Cape opposition this season, being beaten twice by both Ajax Cape Town and Santos in league games.
