Ford has launched a new budget car. Priced at an appealing R88 525, the Ford Ikon 1.3iL is R15 000 cheaper than next car in the Ikon range, and by far the cheapest Ford now available in this country.
The Ikon’s 1,3 litre engine utilises two valves per cylinder to produce 55 kW of power and 110 Nm of torque – both fair figures for this class of vehicle. Features include an immobiliser, a tinted windscreen, a rev-counter, and oil and fuel level warning lights.
Service intervals for the Ikon are 15 000 km, while long-life spark plugs and maintenance-free camshaft-drive and valve clearances help to minimise running costs. There’s a three-year / 100 000 km warranty, and the Ford Protect Roadside plan gives three years coverage, 24 hours a day. For those who wish to chip in a little extra Ford offers a three year / 60 000 Scheduled Service Plan. In an era where most cars are priced far beyond the reach of the average South African it’s good to see something at least remotely affordable heaving over the horizon.
