SA petrol price to drop by 23c

The price of all grades of petrol is to decline by 23 cents a litre (c/l) on August 4 after a 17c/l drop was implemented on July 7, the Department of Minerals and Energy (DME) said on Monday.

In a statement detailing the monthly fuel price changes, the DME said the price of diesel 0,3% sulphur will fall by 12c/l, while that of diesel 0,05% sulphur will decline by 13c/l.

There will also be a 15c/l decrease in the wholesale price of Illuminating Paraffin, and a 20c/l decline in the single maximum national retail price of illuminating paraffin, effective from August 4.

This means that the retail price of 93 octane petrol declines to 431c/l in Gauteng from a record high of 471c/l in June.

Wholesale 0,3% sulphur diesel will cost 372,20c/l in Gauteng and 359,30c/l at the coast, while illuminating paraffin will cost 269,90c/l in Gauteng and 247,90c/l at the coast.

The department reported that since the beginning of the current fuel price review period — from June 28 to July 23 — international prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin had increased.

The average rand/US dollar exchange rate firmed to R6,1474 per dollar from R6,5071 per dollar in the June averaging period and 6,8516 in the May averaging period.

The DME said an increase of 3c/l in the retail margin of petrol would be implemented from August 4. – I-Net Bridge
