Cape Town’s weather on Thursday made up for what has so far been the driest winter for decades with a downpour that flooded roads across the city.
A minibus taxi overturned on De Waal Drive’s Hospital Bend, where incoming lanes were awash in brown, silt-laden water.
A small lake formed below the Holiday Inn on Eastern Boulevard, reducing traffic to a crawl as motorists queued to get around it.
Flooded roads and malfunctioning traffic lights were reported across the city.
The city’s head of disaster management, Geoff Laskey, said teams were ”assessing the whole area”, and though he was unable at this stage to give details, there was ”lots of flooding”.
Some shack areas had been flooded as well, he said. – Sapa
