South Africa’s Roland Schoeman qualified at the top of the table in the men’s 50m freestyle semifinals on Thursday evening in Athens.
He won the first semifinal in a time of 21,99 seconds. The eight fastest swimmers from the two semifinals go through to the finals on Friday evening.
Brett Hawke of Australia is second on the table with a time of 22,07 seconds, followed by the United States’s Jason Lezak with 22,12 seconds. Lezak won the second semifinal.
South Africa’s other swimmer in the race, Lyndon Ferns, came seventh in the first semifinal with a time of 22,46 seconds, but did not qualify for the final. — Sapa-AFP
