A man was shot and killed in the Johannesburg city centre on Monday morning, police said.
The man, in his early 40s, was accosted by a group of four men on the corner of Claim and Bree streets just before 7am. They held him at gunpoint in what is believed to be an attempted robbery, Captain Schalk Bornman said.
When they noticed a Metro police vehicle they shot the man in the back of the head and ran away. The man died on the scene. The four are still at large. – Sapa
