Golden Arrows continued to be a hoodoo team for Bush Bucks when they beat them 1-0 in a lacklustre Castle Premiership match in East London on Sunday.
The first half was goalless, but the first half was a ding dong battle with both teams playing with plenty of purpose. The visitors were the first team to settle down with Justice Sithole forcing the second choice Bucks goalkeeper Jacob Mokhasi to push the ball over for a corner kick.
Shortly after the restart, Bucks coach Clemens Westerhof made a double substitution and introduced Simo Dladla and Jonathan Armogam in the place of Papi Mbele and Mhlonipshwa Mbambo.
Bucks skipper Tanya Mrewa came close to scoring in the 52nd minute, but Arrows ‘keeper Davis Phiri was equal to the task.
Arrows midfielder-cum-striker Thiyekile Gulwa missed a sitter in the box after he failed to convert a cross from Joseph Henyekane.
But it did not matter, as Arrows’ Harry Milanzi became a super-sub when he scored a goal that eventually proved to be the difference between the two teams in the 77th minute.
Milanzi out-paced the Bucks defence before beating the advancing goalkeeper with a well-timed volley. Bucks continued to push for an equaliser but their poor finishing cost them dearly. – Sapa
