At least four people were killed and two wounded on Sunday in an early-morning rocket or mortar attack near the Oil Ministry in the Iraqi capital, according to medical sources, police and an AFP correspondent at the scene.
”We have four dead and two wounded,” Dr Imad Abdel Latif said.
The bodies of a woman and two men were seen being lifted from the scene of the attack, which left a metre-deep hole on a side road north of the ministry. A medic vomited beside one of the bodies, whose stomach was bloodied.
The heavily fortified Oil Ministry building on the north-east side of the capital is the target of frequent mortar and missile attacks by insurgents.
Bits of flesh and personal belongings, such as a woman’s purse, lay scattered on the ground. The windshields of several vehicles were smashed after the attack, which occurred at about 7am (4am GMT).
Police said it was not immediately clear if the attack was caused by a mortar or a rocket. — Sapa-AFP
