Beach hut sells for sky-high price

A one-room beach hut overlooking a picturesque bay on the coast of south-west England has sold for £100 000, a British newspaper said on Tuesday.

The 2,4m by 4,2m brick chalet on Southbourne Beach in Bournemouth, Dorset, has no more than one room and no toilet, the Daily Telegraph reported on its website.

Overlooking scenic Poole Bay, the abode previously sold for £7 500 pounds in 1984 and has 54 years left on its lease.

”I told the buyer then I thought he was crazy to pay that much — but how wrong can you be?” said Joss Payne, the lawyer who handled the purchase 20 years ago.

”That’s been a pretty effective investment,” the lawyer added. — Sapa-AFP
