Exciting win for Dolphins

Sahara Stadium, Kingsmead, produced an amazing end to a hard-fought Supersport clash between the Dolphins and the Eagles on Sunday. Set 206 for victory, the Dolphins were 142 for eight before Andrew Tweedie and Zahir Abrahim added 67 in an unbroken partnership to take the Dolphins to an exciting win.

The Eagles’ tails wagged successfully on the final morning as the last four wickets added 37 vital runs in 18,1 overs to stretch the lead to 205 with 84 overs left for play. Tweedie claimed two of the wickets, while Lance Klusener and Mfuneko Ngam shared the other two.

Once again, the Dolphins top-order batting failed. This time they were 75 for five when Klusener joined Duncan Brown. Victor Mpitsang was the chief destroyer, claiming three of the wickets to fall as the Dolphins’ batting struggled against the Eagles’ accurate bowlers.

Brown played a sterling part in the Dolphins’ recovery, batting 135 minutes (68 balls) for his 18 runs. When he was dismissed with the score on 142 for eight, the Dolphins still needed 64 runs for victory.

This brought Abrahim to the crease to join Tweedie in an amazing ninth-wicket partnership that took the Dolphins to a victory which appeared impossible earlier in the day.

The man of the match was Tweedie. — Sapa
