ThisDay still busy paying off creditors

The chairperson of South Africa’s national daily ThisDay, Nduka Obaigbena, is expected to announce the newspaper’s fate after a staff meeting due to be held on Wednesday, said ThisDay executive director and special adviser to Obaigbena, Gbenga Oni-Olusola.

Oni-Olusola said on Monday that the owners were still attending to the newspaper’s debts. He said they were paying internal and external creditors and he expected this to be concluded soon.

Oni-Olusola said that Obaigbena will be arriving on Wednesday for a staff meeting after which ”a clearer picture will be known”.

The publication of ThisDay was abruptly suspended on Monday, October 25 — and the paper has since failed to appear — amid financial difficulties. A press conference is expected to be held after Wednesday’s staff meeting. – I-Net Bridge
