Visdorpie and chips

Visdorpie and chips

Oom Krisjan regrets the heavy-handed disciplinary action taken against acting news editor of the Cape Times, Tony Weaver, for telling Oom Krisjan about discontent at the Visdorpie headquarters of O’Reillydom, where Cape Times staff are sick of seeing their stories warmed over by the Argus without acknowledgement. Weaver is to face the music next week, and Lemmer hears that this is one of many disciplinary proceedings under way at so-called Independent News and Media — most for minor offences. May the wors be with you, Tony, in your battles with the Beanz empire.

Off with their heads

Every now and again an e-mail or letter comes to Oom Krisjan that reminds him that not everyone in this fair land is utterly thrilled about the changes that have taken place in the past decade. But it is rare that the Dorsbult is sent a press release that suggests that some people in high places would rather turn the clock back 100 years or so.

So Lemmer would like to share with readers this week’s statement from the Office of His Majesty King Goodwill Zwelithini:

”It is not cultural for His Majesty to answer questions regarding his intentions of marriage to his future queens. The office of His Majesty views with a lot of disdain the audacity of anyone to comment on the health status of any queen — including whether or not she is pregnant. Any enquiries into such matters are preceived by Zulus as gross disrespect and un-African. Probing into the King’s private affairs is an abominable act and in olden times would lead to severe punishment.”

Oom Krisjan is toying with the idea of forwarding this to Prince Charles as a hint to how he should deal with those brutal papers that insist on printing his late wife’s claims of being ”leapt on” by the heir to the throne.
