South Africa all-rounder Andrew Hall will play for Kent in the 2005 season, the English county announced on Tuesday.
Hall (29) was released by Kent’s domestic rivals Worcestershire after two seasons with the Midlands county and he lost his place in the South Africa team towards the end of their tour of England last season.
But recalled during the recent tour of India, Hall responded with a century in the first Test at Kanpur after being drafted in as an emergency opener.
And he is now set to face England again in next week’s first Test in Port Elizabeth.
”Kent has a squad capable of being competitive in all forms of cricket, and I very much hope that I will be able to help them achieve success in 2005,” Hall said.
”Being a pivotal player in helping the squad deliver is very motivating. Everyone at the club is delighted that Andrew has agreed to join us,” said Kent captain David Fulton.
”We have been looking for the right individual to fill the all-rounder spot that is so important to the balance of our side in both four-day and one-day competitions.
”He has a range of skills with both bat and ball in both forms of cricket, as well as the desire to win.
”He is available from the middle of May for the whole of the season, which will give us continuity, and he brings with him international experience and an excellent record in English county cricket.” — Sapa-AFP
