Allegedly corrupt police officer commits suicide

Limpopo police have opened an inquest docket following the death of a 26-year-old border police officer who killed himself just minutes before he was to be arrested for corruption.

Polokwane police spokesperson Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba said on Thursday that Constable Matsobane Klein-boy Rasesemole had been under investigation for allegedly accepting a R100 bribe from a Zimbabwean illegal immigrant.

He had been stationed at the Plat Jan Border post on the South Africa-Botswana border, and was also attached to the crime prevention unit.

”The deceased was being investigated for corruption. And just as police were about to arrest him, he shot himself in the head and died at the scene. He had been at work when he committed suicide,” said Ramatseba.

He said police will continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.

The deceased was married but did not have any children. — Sapa
