Struggling Manning Rangers are without a head coach following the sudden resignation of Ian Palmer on Monday.
Palmer tendered his resignation following a meeting with the Mighty Maulers’ chairperson, Chicco Lazarus, in the morning.
The former Orlando Pirates striker joined the KwaZulu-Natal outfit towards the end of last year on a two-year contract. He was offered a contract after two consecutive victories.
Rangers CEO Param Joseph on Monday night confirmed the departure of Palmer. He denied that there had been a fight between Palmer and Lazarus soon after the club suffered a 2-0 defeat by Ajax Cape Town on Saturday night.
Rangers management is expected to appoint former Bafana Bafana coach Clive Barker to be in charge of the club’s technical committee following Palmer’s resignation.
Barker, who was in charge of Bafana Bafana when they won the 1996 African Cup of Nations finals in Johannesburg, worked as Rangers’ technical adviser prior to the departure of Palmer.
Lazarus is expected to make an announcement regarding the position of the coach on Tuesday.
Palmer could not be reached for comment on Monday night as he was reported to be on his way to Johannesburg to be with his family. — Sapa
