The Blue Bulls delivered a neat performance to beat the Lions 28-12 in a friendly warm-up match played as a curtain-raiser to the Cats and Bulls Vodacom Super 12 match at Ellis Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Bulls led 15-12 at the break.
Tries by scrumhalf Scott Mathie and flank Derick Kuun and a conversion and penalty from vice-captain Morne Steyn gave the visitors a deserved lead at the halfway mark.
The Lions were full value with their concerted effort but would have counted themselves lucky to trail by just three points.
That scoreline remained deep into the second half — as the match lost structure and direction — when a flurry of points saw the Bulls put some respectability to the scoreline.
With 13 points — via a penalty, drop-goal and late converted try — in the last 10 minutes the Bulls put a damper on an otherwise useful afternoon for the home side. — Sapa
