Supersport United overwhelmed Tornado with skill and experience in their 8-0 drubbing and booked a place in the quarterfinals of the Absa Cup at Caledonian Stadium on Saturday.
United were in control throughout the first stanza and led 4-0. The hosts opened the floodgates as early as the eighth minute through Lungisani Ndlela. The lanky forward tapped home from inside the box when he finished a pass from Manuel Bucuane.
United were two up 15 minutes later. The goal was scored by midfielder Sibusiso Mahlangu.
Bucuane registered his name in the scorers’ sheet in the 22nd minute after being fed by Dikgang Mabalane.
Bucuane confirmed his brace in the 38th minute with a close-range shot. He was back in the spotlight on the hour mark, adding his third — the fourth for United.
A minute later, defender Phil Evans’s long strike left Tornado’s goalkeeper Sabatha Mbongeni perplexed as the ball rattled the net.
Debutant Kwena Mathopa registered two goals in the closing stages.
