Windies lead women’s series against SA

The West Indies took an unbeatable lead in their three-match one-day international series against the South African women’s cricket team at the Tshwane University of Technology Oval on Thursday, with a seven-wicket victory over the home side.

The West Indies won the toss and sent South Africa in to bat.

South Africa were all out for 134, thanks largely to some superb bowling by Felicia Cummings, who took three wickets for 30 runs.

She was ably supported by Debbie Lewis, who took two for 25, and Envis Williams, who took two for 23.

Daleen Terblanche was top scorer for South Africa, with 33.

Chasing the modest target of 135 for victory, the visitors passed the winning total in the 32nd over, for the loss of just three wickets. Alicia Smith, Charlize van der Westhuizen and Lonell de Beer took a wicket each.

Nelly Williams, who made 82 in the first match on Tuesday, made 40, and Philippa Lavine was not out on 50.

The third match will be played at the same venue on Saturday. — Sapa
