Celtic take home full marks

Bloemfontein Celtic took home full points when they hammered Wits University in a Castle Premiership encounter at the Seisa Ramabodu Stadium on Sunday.

The tough tie saw the teams producing classic performances, scoring seven goals between them.

The goal fest started in the first stanza when the Clever Boys opened their account via Charles Yohane, who scored in the eighth minute from a well-taken free kick, just on the edge of the danger box.

Yohane curled it beautifully, beating an off-guard Celtic’s Vincent Ongandzi to the far posts.

However, Phunya Selesele showed character and staged a brave fight, which saw them levelling the score line to one-all via Moses Spandeel, who netted in the 11th minute.

The fiery Celtic’s striker received a flicked-on pass and challenged two defenders before unleashing a powerful shot, beating Wits’ Wayne Roberts at the far posts.

Spurred on by the goal equaliser, the hosts piled on the pressure and their efforts were rewarded when Jurry Merahe fired Celtic into the lead in the 13th minute, when he headed in a cross from winger Xolani Makhoba.

Phunya Selesele were leading 2-1 at half-time.

The second stanza saw a continuation of the goal fest, with goals from Reagan Noble and striker Simon Makhubela.

Celtic again came from behind when Boitumelo Moleyane netted a penalty just before the dying minutes to make it three-all.

Celtic’s Siyabonga Nkosi stole the limelight when he scored the killer goal in the 88th minute, beating Roberts with a long-range thunderbolt volley to the far right. — Sapa
