It was the middle of summer last year when this incident occurred. I was very thirsty and as I was busy I sent a learner to fetch water for me. When he brought it I drank it with a straw so that I could enjoy it.
I had drunk a quarter of it when another learner in my class asked which tank the water had come from. When he found out, he said that he had seen someone throwing a dead frog in the water tank.
I was nauseated by the thought of the dead frog as I am afraid of frogs. From that day on I brought my own water to school because I was convinced that the water tanks were dirty. I told the principal about the incident and he sent a learner to clean the tanks. The learner found many things in the tanks such as bottles, tins, locusts, frogs and more.
The tanks are now cleaned every weekend.
I would like to say to the principals of schools that it is not safe to drink tank water and there should be windmills at schools so that everyone can be assured of clean drinking water.
