The June 2002 edition of the Teacher ran an article about drug prevention programmes in schools, which contained inaccuracies about an organisation called Narconon. Narconon is a secular organisation licensed to use some of the research discoveries made by L. Ron Hubbard (author and humanitarian) in the field of drugs. Mr Hubbard spent over half a century researching and developing solutions to crime, illiteracy, moral decay, and drug addiction. He is also the author of the world renowned Dianetics – The Modern Science of Mental Health and the founder of the applied religious philosophy called Scientology.
Key to reducing the drug problem is our prevention programme, which gets students to understand why drugs do not make life better. This is tremendously successful. In a recent Narconon programme, 90% of those who either use drugs, have used or indicated an interest in trying drugs in the future, said after hearing our ‘The Truth about Drugs” programme that they will stop, not try, that they had made a decision regarding drugs or their opinion of drugs had changed.
Narconon International Headquarters are in the United States and there are Narconon Education and also Narconon Rehabilitation Centres in the US, Europe, Australia and South Africa. Narconon has been found to achieve continuous excellent results. Should anyone want to know more about Narconon they can either call Cape Town on (021) 510 6160, Johannesburg (011) 622 3341 or log on to www.narconon.org
