I am a teacher in a township school in Port Shepstone. I always teach my learners acceptable behaviour and ways of protecting themselves against abuse.
I found out that one of my learners had allegedly been raped by her uncle and I reported the matter to the school principal, who then told me to do the right thing. I took the child to the clinic where she got medical attention.
The learner was helped in every way possible. What bothers me, though, is that the alleged perpetrator is still free and the case hasn’t been taken to court yet, despite the fact that police were called by the staff at the clinic to lay a charge. Is this justice?
