In every province throughout South Africa, SABC Education (Radio) has an army of education activists ensuring the public in the communities they broadcast are given the opportunity to explore education in greater detail.
Often, the radio programmes in rural South Africa is the only way through which educators, parents and learners can communicate about education.
The Teacher has profiled an SABC Education radio station regularly since January to highlight the men and women making a difference on the airwaves. Moses Makhosini Nkebe is no different from the individuals featured in previous issues.
Nkebe, who produces educational programmes for Umhlobo Wenen FM, reckons his job is to maintain good relationship with all education stakeholders so that he can get the answers required.
He has a database of education contacts that are used regularly in his inserts for the station.
Issues he focuses on include early childhood development, health, science and technology, curriculum support, commerce and finance, youth and culture, civic education and educator development.
The station broadcasts in Xhosa and uses 100% of local content.
