It could perhaps be described as a niche market, but such is the continued fame of United States pop star Madonna that a pair of her black, lacy knickers — guaranteed pre-worn — have sold for £1 000 (R12 400).
The underwear, worn by the 46-year-old star in the 1993 film Body of Evidence, was sold by a lap-dancing club in Aberdeen, Scotland, the club’s owner said on Thursday.
Private Eyes Gentleman’s Club bought the knickers from a costume shop in Hollywood and kept them in a glass case on a wall, but after a re-fit decided they should be sold on internet auction site eBay.
Club owner Tony Cochrane said the auction was abandoned after eBay contacted him to say such already-worn garments cannot be sold under its rules, but one US-based fan who had already made a bid contacted him to arrange a private sale.
”We are delighted to have sold them and are just sorting out final fees so the underwear can be transported to America,” Cochrane said.
”It was always our intention to sell them to a true fan and we are happy with the sale.” — Sapa-AFP
