Prolific South African soccer agent Mike Makaab left South Africa on Monday in what is believed to be ”hush-hush” negotiations to conclude the transfer of the PSL’s player of the year, Collins Mbesuma, from Kaizer Chiefs to an English Premier League club.
”There is nothing more I can add at this stage to the announcement by Chiefs that Mbesuma has been in England to conduct medical examinations,” said Makaab.
”Matters in this respect should be clarified either on Tuesday or Wednesday.”
Zambian international Mbesuma, the sensation of the past PSL season, was largely instrumental in Amakhosi retaining the league championship and annexing the Coca-Cola Cup with an overall tally of 35 goals.
He has been linked with Bolton Wanderers, who already have a strong complement of African players, including the continent’s one-time footballer of the year, Jay-Jay Okocha of Nigeria and El-Hadji Diouf of Senegal — and are reported to have made an offer in excess of R11-million for Mbesuma.
But the bustling Zambian striker has also drawn the attention of Blackburn Rovers and Makaab, who handles the affairs of a large consignment of Bafana players, is probably trying to conclude the best deal possible for Mbesuma, while holding his cards close to his chest. – Sapa
