‘Malicious’ worm hits the New York Times

Microsoft said on Tuesday it was probing a ”malicious worm” that appears to be targetting users of its Windows 2000 operating system.

”Microsoft is actively investigating new reports of a malicious worm identified as ‘Worm_Rbot.CEQ’,” the software giant said in a statement.

”Customers who believe they have been attacked should contact their local FBI office or post their complaint on the internet Fraud Complaint Center website,” Microsoft said.

The US cable news network CNN, which has also reported the worm, showed footage from its New York newsroom of affected computers constantly shutting down and re-booting.

CNN said that computers at the New York Times and the ABC television network had also been affected by the worm.

Microsoft said that its probe is ongoing and that it is working closely with US law enforcement agencies. – Sapa-AFP
