Australia win toss and bat in second one-dayer

Australian skipper Ricky Ponting won his second successive toss and decided to bat in the second Super Series cricket one-dayer against a World XI at Docklands stadium in Melbourne on Friday.

The world team, which must win to keep the series alive after losing the opening game by 93 runs on Wednesday, was unchanged but made West Indian Chris Gayle its super sub replacing Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi.

Australia made one forced change with paceman Stuart Clark to make his ODI debut for Glenn McGrath. Leg-spinner Cameron White remained Australia’s super sub.

McGrath pulled up sore after the mid-week victory and was rested from Friday’s game.

The Australians will be fielding one of their least-experienced bowling attacks in one-day cricket with Nathan Bracken making his 19th appearance, Shane Watson his 39th and debutant Clark supporting strike bowler Brett Lee (114 games). – AFP
