Two men raped two French students at a camping site at Frankfort on Monday, police said on Tuesday.
Spokesperson Constable Christopher Mophiring said three men fled the scene in the women’s vehicle after the incident at 1am on Monday.
”It is alleged that the two women were asleep in their vehicle at the Wilge River camping site.
”They were awakened when the window of the vehicle was broken,” Mophiring said.
Police said three men demanded their cellphones and money, which the woman handed over.
”Apparently the suspects tied up the women whereafter two of the men allegedly raped the women,” said Mophiring.
He said the victims’ vehicle was spotted by police near the Jim Fouche gravel road and they gave chase.
”The suspects stopped the vehicle at some point and fled to the nearby farms,” Mophiring said.
Police said the vehicle was recovered.
Mophiring made a plea to the community to help find the suspects.
”Any person with information that may lead to the arrest and conviction of the suspects should contact the Bethlehem Serious and Violent Crime Unit,” he said.
”A reward is available for the information and arrest of the suspects,” said Mophiring. – Sapa
