Dynamos earned three valuable points when they beat high-riding Ajax Cape Town one-nil at a windy Athlone Stadium on Saturday night. The only goal was scored in the 35th minute.
Ajax were all over the visitors but poor passing and shooting saw them finish goalless.
The home side, playing in a strong south-easter, kept up the pressure throughout. In the 18th minute, George Mofokeng ran from the halfway line and shot from 20m out, but the ball scraped the crossbar.
Three minutes later, Bryce Moon crossed from the right to the left, where Franklin Cale centred, and Nathan Paulse’s shot was well saved by goalkeeper Swadick Sanudi.
In the 25th minute, Paulse breasted down to Brent Carelse but, once again, the shot was brilliantly saved by Sanudi.
In one of their few forages into the Ajax half, the visitors’ striker shot and Shimyane Tsholala handled the ball and was booked. Gerald Modabi made no mistake with the penalty shot.
In the second half, Ajax pressed hard, but with no luck. However, in the 52nd minute, Frank Makua’s shot from the edge hit the upright. Goalkeeper Andre Petim was well beaten and the ball went across the goal and out.
In the 71st minute, Stan Lewis’s shot was partially saved by Sanudi and he retrieved the falling ball. — Sapa
