Alleged baby killers in court

The trial of alleged baby killer Dina Rodrigues and her four accomplices is set to start in the Cape High Court on Monday.

Rodrigues, Sipho Mfazwe, Bongezi Bobotyane, Zanethemba Gwada and a 16-year-old youth are accused of slitting the throat of six-month-old Jordan-Leigh Norton.

The state says that alleged mastermind Rodrigues had instructed her co-accused, who gained entry to the Norton household under the pretext of delivering a package.

In September last year Rodrigues had her R20 000 bail revoked after it was found she had broken her bail conditions by sending SMS messages to two state witnesses — her former boyfriend and the mother of the murdered baby.

Her co-accused were previously denied bail and she joined them in custody.

As with previous appearances the family of the murdered baby held aloft posters on the court’s steps reading, ”Justice for Jordan” and ”South Africa: Stop the killings”. – Sapa
