Mufamadi treated for concussion after car crash

Provincial and Local Government Minister Sydney Mufamadi is being treated for concussion after his vehicle and a taxi collided in Midrand on Tuesday morning, his spokesperson said.

Zandile Nkuta said the minister was on his way to Johannesburg International Airport where he was due to board a plane to Cape Town when the accident happened.

”The minister has no serious visible injuries. He is undergoing some check-ups at the moment. His driver, who was the only other person in the car, was not injured,” said Nkuta.

”The minister was on his way to Cape Town for the parliamentary media briefing following the president’s State of the Nation address.”

Nkuta said the taxi crashed into Mufamadi’s car, but that she could not say whether anyone in the taxi was injured.

She was unable to confirm a media report that nine people, including three paramedics, were injured in an accident a short distance away, while the paramedics were responding to the minister’s accident.

”I can’t confirm that, but I do know that further down there was an accident. You will have to speak to emergency services for that.”

Johannesburg emergency services spokesperson Malcolm Midgely was unavailable for comment.

Nkuta said the minister would return to work soon. – Sapa
