Eminem divorces first wife a second time

United States rap superstar Eminem has filed for divorce from his wife Kim Mathers less than three months after he remarried her, a publicist for the singer said on Wednesday.

The couple — whose stormy relationship has been the focus of much of Eminem’s music — walked down the aisle for the second time on January 14 after reconciling following their 2001 divorce.

A spokesperson for Eminem, whose real name is Marshall Mathers, confirmed the fresh split but declined to provide any details.

”Other than confirming I have no comment,” Dennis Dennehy said in an e-mail.

Eminem (33) and Kim Mathers (31) first began dating 17 years ago, and married in 1999, but the marriage was subsequently dissolved after two years.

They fought an ugly custody battle over their daughter, who is now 10, following the first divorce, but slowly grew closer starting in late 2004, leading up to their second marriage.

Eminem, whose 2000 album The Marshall Mathers LP sold 9,8-million copies, has made nine albums since 1999 that have sold more than 60-million copies worldwide. He had three top 10 releases in 2002.

Many of his songs have been blasted for their explicit lyrics but the rapper still has an international army of followers. Eminem recently cancelled several European tour dates after he was hospitalised for addiction to sleeping pills.

He has said his time in rehab was meant to regain control of himself before ”it gets out of hand”. – AFP
