Russian Football Union (RFU) boss Vitaly Mutko officially confirmed on Wednesday that Dutch manager Guus Hiddink will take over Russia’s national squad after the end of the World Cup in Germany.
Mutko added that the RFU and the 59-year-old Dutch guru would sign a two-year contract on Friday, which later may be prolonged for another two-year term.
The Russian football chief also said that the financial details of the deal would be disclosed at a news conference after the signing of the contract.
Hiddink, who guided the Netherlands to the 1998 World Cup semifinals before repeating the feat with South Korea in 2002, had been earlier tipped as a possible successor to England coach Sven-Goran Eriksson.
Hiddink will also guide Australia at this summer’s World Cup after leading the Socceroos to their first finals for 32 years. — AFP
