Twenty-seven people were injured, nine seriously, after two minibus taxis collided near Boksburg on Friday afternoon, Ekurhuleni metro police said.
Spokesperson Jimmy Maboko said one of the taxis had stopped, party on the road, when the other driving from behind tried to avoid it by overtaking.
”The driver of the second taxi realised that there was a truck and another car [approaching] from the opposite lane, went back and drove into the back of the stationary taxi, forcing it completely out of the road,” said Maboko.
The accident happened at 3pm on Barry Marais road between Dawn Park and Holomisa informal settlement.
”Some of those injured were schoolchildren from BEC Secondary School in Benoni,” said Maboko.
Those seriously injured were taken to Natalspruit hospital.
