The retail price of all grades of petrol will increase by 31c per litre from Wednesday August 2, the Department of Minerals and Energy said on Friday.
The wholesale price of diesel with a sulphur content of 0,05% and with a sulphur content of 0,005% will rise by 22c a litre and 25c a litre respectively on the same date.
The wholesale price of illuminating paraffin will rise by 21c a litre, while the single maximum national retail price of illuminating paraffin will be increased by 28c a litre.
The latest changes bring the retail price of a litre of 95 octane unleaded petrol in Gauteng to a record 704c per litre and to 680c per litre at the coast.
During the period under review — June 30 to July 27 — the average international product prices of petrol, diesel and illuminating paraffin increased.
The rand/United States dollar exchange rate weakened compared with the previous period and averaged 7,1276 compared with 6,9860 in the previous period.
Less than a month ago, the petrol price rose by 25c a litre.
Oil prices also rose on Friday, as fighting in the Middle East made traders fearful of possible supply interruptions in the region. — I-Net Bridge and Sapa
