Report says Yengeni is being pampered in prison

Former African National Congress chief whip Tony Yengeni is being pampered in Malmesbury prison, according to Cape Town tabloid newspaper Die Son.

The newspaper reported this week that Yengeni, who was sentenced to four years jail for fraud, had been moved to the prison’s hospital section, so that he did not have to be with other inmates, and was given a specially-cooked meal on his arrival there.

It reported that his wife Lumka had visited him repeatedly in conflict with prison regulations, and that she had brought in a 74cm television set and a music centre for him.

A staff member at Malmesbury’s Boland Meubels denied a claim in Die Son report that the shop had supplied a double bed for Yengeni.

Western Cape correctional services spokesperson Mark Solomons was not answering his cellphone on Friday afternoon, and has not returned messages left earlier. The provincial office of the department was not answering its telephone either. – Sapa
