Thousands of Jacob Zuma supporters will be hoping that the corruption trial against the former deputy president is thrown out of court when Judge Herbert Msimang hands down his decision on Wednesday on whether to grant the state’s application for a postponement.
Hundreds of supporters gathered on Tuesday night in Pietermaritzburg’s Freedom Square for a night-long vigil.
Many more were expected to fill the square during the course of Wednesday.
Zuma is accused of accepting a R500 000 bribe from the two Thint companies — subsidiaries of the French arms manufacturer Thales International. The two Thint companies are his co-accused in the case.
Zuma has denied the allegations and claims that he is a victim of a political conspiracy. – Sapa
