The African Leopards, the continent’s development rugby team, will play the British Army Senior XV at the Aldershot Military Stadium, near London, on November 23.
”The 2006 Leopards will represent the best of rugby in Africa,” said Abdelaziz Bougja, president of the Confederation of African Rugby.
”The team will draw players from nine different countries, and the match will be televised on terrestrial TV in 32 African countries. Rugby is growing throughout Africa, and the Leopards will reflect the rising standards throughout the continent.”
The Leopards played their inaugural match against a South African Students team in Johannesburg last year, and aim to develop as a continental team that bridges the gap between Africa’s emerging national sides and the higher levels of the game.
”We are delighted to be hosting the African Leopards,” said Gary Stocks, manager of the British Army Senior XV, ”and we look forward to staging an outstanding rugby occasion.” – Sapa-AFP
