Woman dies after being attacked by bees

A 45-year-old woman died after being attacked by a swarm of bees at her home near Sodwana in northern KwaZulu-Natal on Monday, police said.

Superintendent Jay Naicker said Zodwa Sikhosana and another woman were sitting in her house at Mbazwana at about 2.45pm when a swarm of bees flew into the house and attacked them.

”The other woman fled and the bees attacked Sikhosana,” said Naicker.

”She was stung all over. She was taken to hospital, but was certified dead on arrival.”

Naicker said the bees were probably disturbed in their nest.

”They probably came from the veld opposite the house, but we’re not certain.” — Sapa
