Agliotti bail application postponed

The bail application of Kebble murder accused Glenn Agliotti was postponed until Wednesday in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Scorpions prosecutor Gerrie Nel said that ”due to unforeseen circumstances” the state would not be able to proceed with the bail hearing on Friday.

Agliotti’s legal representatives had agreed to the postponement.

Agliotti was brought up from the cells wearing a dark blue suit. He stood in the dock with his hands behind his back. He was not asked to address the court.

Nel requested that next week’s bail hearing be held in the same court room, court 23, where Agliotti appeared before magistrate Chris Eksteen.

His previous appearance was before magistrate L van der Schyff, who recused himself during the previous hearing, pointing out that he knew Agliotti from a previous case.

Agliotti (49) faces charges of murder and conspiracy to murder mining magnate Brett Kebble.

Kebble was shot dead in his car on a road in Melrose in September last year.

The court ordered that, by agreement, Agliotti would be detained at the Sandton police station holding cells for his next court appearance.

A business associate of Kebble, Agliotti is also a friend of national police commissioner Jackie Selebi. – Sapa
