Gauteng police Commissioner Perumal Naidoo has said that 2007 should be dedicated to a no-nonsense approach to fighting crime.
Naidoo was speaking at a handing-over ceremony of 250 police vehicles on Thursday in Aeroton, Diepkloof, outside Johannesburg.
”These vehicles have been … allocated to special units … These units are the dog unit, flying squad and the crime-combating unit within the province,” said Naidoo.
Of these vehicles, about 80 will be allocated to Pretoria police services, 60 will go to Ekurhuleni and 60 will be deployed in Johannesburg.
The flying squads will be allocated 10 vehicles per unit.
Among the vehicles are Ford Territories and Isuzu SUVs.
Naidoo said that in 2007 police members should be dedicated and show determination to tackle crime without fear or favour, using their new vehicles. — Sapa
