A Cricket South Africa (CSA) disciplinary hearing against Proteas batsman Herschelle Gibbs for using uncouth language during a match was postponed on Tuesday.
Chair of the proceedings Judge Mervyn King said the matter was put off after he learnt that Gibbs would appeal against an International Cricket Council (ICC) finding on the issue.
Gibbs told King in the morning he intended to appeal against the ICC move to suspend him for two Test matches.
”As the ICC findings and suspension have a bearing on the CSA’s disciplinary matter, I have postponed the hearing until after Herschelle Gibbs’s appeal proceedings have been completed by the ICC”, King said.
No evidence was led on Tuesday and the hearing will begin at a date to be set after Gibbs’s ICC appeal has been dealt with.
Gibbs was summoned to the hearing in Johannesburg after abusive comments he made during the first Test against Pakistan.
On Monday, Gibbs appeared before match referee Chris Broad and was sentenced to a two-match ban after being found guilty of a level-three offence in terms of ICC regulations. — Sapa
