A poor crowd on Sunday saw AmaZulu play out a 1-1 draw against SuperSport United in a Premier Soccer League game at the Princess Magogo Stadium.
AmaZulu were in a 1-0 lead at the interval.
Bennet Mnguni, the former Sundowns midfielder, and ex-Kaizer Chiefs player Lucky Mzizi made their debuts for AmaZulu.
AmaZulu opened the scoring in the 13th minute through Litha Ngxabi, who last season spent large amounts of time warming the bench for the home side.
The goal was initiated by a John ”Shoes” Moshoeu pass the to Siyabonga Mkhanazi, who then released it to Ngxabi. Ngxabi’s shot was too good for United goalkeeper Andre Arendse.
In the 23rd minute the home side had a chance of doubling the score, but Moshoeu’s shot went wide.
AmaZulu were the more organised team in the first half, especially in defence and midfield.
In the 36th minute, Nkosana Qaba, who was a tower of strength in the AmaZulu defence, cleared a well-taken shot from Katlego Mphela.
United got the equaliser in the 51st minute from the boot of Sibusiso Mahlangu, who received a neat pass from Toko Modise. — Sapa
