Manuel won’t be attending G7 meeting

South African Finance Minister Trevor Manuel will not be attending the group of seven (G7) finance ministers and central bank Governors meeting in Essen, Germany, as earlier advised, the National Treasury said on Thursday.

National Treasury director general Lesetja Kganyago will attend the gathering on his behalf, it said in a statement.

On Wednesday the Treasury had said that Manuel would be attending the meeting.

The meeting, scheduled for Friday, is expected to discuss bond markets in emerging economies and trade, as well as other matters. Manuel was invited by the G7, as were finance ministers from Brazil, India, Russia, China and Mexico, the Treasury said in its earlier statement. — I-Net Bridge
