Limpopo has the lowest crime levels in the country, Premier Sello Moloto has told the opening of the provincial legislature.
He said this was according to a South African Institute of Race Relations study, Beeld newspaper reported on Friday.
Although Moloto praised the police for their crime-combating efforts, he said there is still a shortage of staff.
This has to be seen to immediately in light of the 2010 Soccer World Cup.
Moloto also called for the establishment of a police unit to investigate ritual murders which, together with witchcraft, is a problem in the area.
He said teenage pregnancies, high death rates associated with alcohol abuse and the abuse of women and children indicate that people do not respect the law.
”Everyday we hear about unnatural deaths; this only shows that there is something wrong with society’s moral standards.”
He wondered whether people still believe in the values of love and respect. — Sapa
