Richards Bay stocks higher at 3,8-million tonnes

Stocks at South Africa’s Richards Bay Coal Terminal were 3,8-million tonnes on Friday, up from 3.2-million tonnes a week ago, transport sources said.

The rise in stocks was due to the closure of RBCT for four days due to severe weather.

Railing to RBCT during the past several days was not affected by weather, but has been below target levels, the sources said.

The carry-over of cancelled trains from last week into this week has not gone smoothly, they said. It has not been possible to reschedule all the previous week’s trains.

In addition, there have been a few train cancellations this week by rail operator Spoornet and by mining companies.

Rail transport of coal to RBCT this week will be 69-million tonnes on an annualised basis at best, the sources said, against a target of 72-million tonnes. – Reuters
