SAA restricts liquids on Australian flights

South African Airways (SAA) passengers travelling to Australia will have to restrict the quantity of liquids, aerosols and gels in their baggage as from Saturday, the airline said.

The restriction was imposed by Australia’s transport and regional services as an enhanced security measure.

Only 100ml per container of drinks, creams, perfumes, sprays, gels and toothpaste would be allowed through the screening point on to international passenger aircraft.

”This should be in a re-sealable transparent plastic bag no larger than one litre, which must be screened separately.

”Exceptions would only be made for passengers with medical conditions, and baby food intended to be consumed on board,” the airline said in a media statement.

The practice was in line with action taken by the United States, Canada, the European Union and recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organisation, the airline said.
